I’ve been craving meatballs in spicy sauce lately. Meatballs are a comfort food and a part of true home cooking. So I decided to cook this recipe for today’s menu. This turned out to be the best meatball recipe I’ve ever tried.

Step 1: Make the meatballs


• 350 g minced beef

• 50 g breadcrumbs

• 1 small onion, peeled and chopped

• 1 egg, beaten

• ½ -teaspoon black pepper

• ½ -teaspoon salt

• 15 ml sunflower oil


1. In a large bowl, mix the minced beef, breadcrumbs and chopped onion together in a bowl, and then add the beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Bit by bit until you have a nice, bound ball of mixture.

2. Using your hands, gently take a small amount of the meat mixture at a time and shape into several small meatballs.

3. Put the meatballs in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes before you fry them.

4. After 45 minutes, heat the 15ml (1 table spoon) of sunflower oil in a pan and add the meatballs, gently frying them for about 5 minutes.


• you can use minced pork or lamb instead of the beef.

• you can use a food processor to mix these ingredients.

Step 2: Make the sauce


• 400 g chopped tinned tomatoes

• 1 small onion, peeled and chopped

• 1 clove garlic, peeled and chopped

• 4-7 chilies, sliced thin

• 1 bay leaf (oregano or basil)

• Sugar, salt, and pepper – to taste

• 15 ml sunflower oil

• Sweet soya sauce


1. Heat the 15ml (1 table spoon) of sunflower oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat and fry the garlic and until light brown.

2. Add the chilies, tinned tomatoes, and bay leaf to the saucepan. Continue to sauté for another 1 minute.

3. Add the meatballs, sugar, salt, and pepper to taste, and a bit of sweet soya sauce, and simmer for 20-30 minutes.

If, at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again! DON’T GIVE UP! Make some notes about what worked and what you didn’t like, and then try the recipe again later.
